stressed
By Debbie

Clip to ScrapBook
I am a third year teacher and I am so much more confident this year than I was even last year. The first year was insane, stressful, scary, etc. Like the others have said, it does get better. Teaching is such an intensive
job and there is ALWAYS going to be something we don't like about it, always going to be something causing us stress, but if you truly love your job, truly care about your students and what you are doing, it isn't so bad.

In response to TCHR, I have 27 first graders in a school built in 1979. We have the highest enrollment in the district (close to 700 K-5) and we are in what used to

be a somewhat rural area of the desert. I know for certain of three housing developments going up and the state says we can't have another school until 2006--we won't make it. Our school hired three teachers mid year last year and two this year and we are getting a portable and next year we will lose our para's because there won't be any money. Everytime we turn around another parent is in jail/prison or we are being handed another assessment to give to the kids. Some of our schools have already been forced to give up recess for extra teaching time. While I have never taught in an inner-city school, one of our new teachers to the building has, and I have a lot of respect for you for doing your job there. We are low income, bilingual district, and it's hard. The city would be even harder.

Now I feel as though I have painted a terrible picture! I love my school, I think we have a good district, but it does get hard sometimes and there are days I come and rant and rave to my husband for an hour because I can't believe what happened. BUT I love my kids. I can't imagine not being there for them. I have some great co-workers and some great parents. Yucky things happen. Just keep looking for the positive!!

Sorry that was so long! Have a good weekend!
