Wonderful!

I think it's so refreshing to see that you are planning for such a positive experience!! I can already tell you will do a wonderful job!!
When I was student teaching, my teacher helped me with ideas in the beginning. The first day, I bought a box of my personal items (pictures, university calendar, etc) to introduce myself to the class. They loved it! They got to learn more about me and we got started on some very interesting conversations!
I know your job is to prepare the student teacher for teaching and to help him or her recognize his/her weaknesses and work on those. I would recommend, | |
though, that occassionally when you are critiquing his or her lessons, you note ONLY positives. Student teaching is stressful and many student teachers begin to fear that they just aren't cut out for teaching. Hearing positives once in awhile boosts self esteem enough so they feel they can carry on.
When I finished student teaching, my coop gave me photocopies of some units that she had completed while I was student teaching and she was out of the room. Those were great as a starting teacher!
