Too Simplistic
By ELLYN

Clip to ScrapBook
I think blaming teachers and blaming parents and blaming kids is too simplistic. I think it's a combination of so many things...all going against success for children. And, I think the #1 thing we, as teachers, can do is
to use our expertise, our education, and our minds to challenge, challenge, challenge these so-called experts.

Parents CAN'T discipline the way our parents disciplined us...or they'll get visited by child protective services and have their kids taken away.

Teachers CAN'T use time-tested methods because some "expert" is being paid to write new methods treating us all like idiots because

we aren't hot for their new "discovery".

Kids CAN'T go outside and play like they used to when we were young because the world isn't safe any more.

Somebody has to take the power away from the nut cases who are screwing everything up. I believe it CAN begin with teachers. I think we can fight the idiotic ideas our "experts" are coming up with.

For example, challenge the expert who is blaming us for fat kid because we have used food in the classroom. Don't just sit back and quietly accept this nonsense...it only takes one to start it. Be the first and be vocal. Ask for PROOF that these ideas are valid. What proof could that idiot have that using Cheerios in math class is causing weight? There is none...so why do we allow them to dump this nonsense on us? We're educated people here...we're TEACHERS! WHY do we sit back and take it when some "expert" stands up in front of us and tells us we're idiots? How about speaking up? How about making some demands of our own? How about challenging their "authority"? You all KNOW I'm right...there is NO validity to this nonsense...so why are we letting ourselves be overrun by this nonsense?
