I wouldn't worry about it. If the student went out to the hall that quickly, with obviously no worry about what you would say (and didn't act up or 'run the halls') I would say that it must be something he is allowed to do when his regular teacher is there.

I might have asked him why he went out into the hall. He may have told you that it was what he was suppose to do when a situation got heated in the classroom.
