Touchy Situation
By Teacher

Clip to ScrapBook
On the one hand, your're better safe than sorry. What grade is this student in? Many of my high school students choose to write stories and poems that are violent and negative. Perhaps you should notify his parents and let them know that you are concerned.
On the other hand, I did a lot of writing when I was a teen, and some of my stories were negative and violent as well. I would have been surprised and annoyed if someone had confronted me with concerns about them. I thought I had good ideas, interesting stories, and those were the kinds of books - like horror stories or non-fiction books - that drew my attention.
I think I would recommend talking to the student about your concerns.
