This Lent my students will be painting a mural of the stations of the cross. I bought a roll of mural paper and I am going to divide the students into teams and assign each team a station.

I also do lots of activities
with Tomie DePaola's books on Catholic Saints, traditions and the life of Jesus.
In October we celebrate the Feast of St. Francis by reading Francis: the Poor Man of Assisi. I had each child bring in pictures of animals that they have cut out of magazines and we made collages of St. Francis and the animals.

When Advent starts I have the children make a chain of Advent good deeds.

They choose one good deed that they can do in each week of advent. They write the good dead on a strip of paper and I put all the good deeds together to make a paper chain . They can be arranged into a wreath or a tree or just hung as a chain. I also give each child a paper ornament that they can use to write their gift to the infant Jesus. I hang those ornaments up with the chain.

When we celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe I would read The Lady of Guadalupe by DePaola and the children make a construction paper mosaics of that famous image.

My principal was kind enough to purchase a whole set of Tomie DePaola's books for the third grade so we are doing a year long author study about his books on Catholicism.
