YOu get what you get and you don't get upset
By Rosie

Clip to ScrapBook
I had a problem last year when I had the class mother bring in a treats. I was passing out the italian ices and one child opened it up, brought it back to try and trade for another flavor.I also had a child decline a drink
and then come and tell me she was thirsty later because she was waiting for me to open another kind of drink to get around my rule of "you get what you get and you don't get upset." I told her that she had her chance and she could get water. The student have to say yes, please or no thank you when a treat is offered. THey are not allowed to ask for something different or pick and choose
unless they have an allergy. The book the Essential 55 (I think the author's name is Brown) has a great ideas for dealing with situations like this. Students must say thank you for any kind of treat within 3 seconds of receiving it or lose it. He also tells his students that if make a comment about a treat he will take it away and give it to another class. He actually baked brownies for his class and one student made a comment and he walked across the hall and gave it to another teacher to share with her class.
