Manners
By Sue W.

Clip to ScrapBook
Cathy,
I'm sorry you had such a disappointment in the behavior of your students. It WAS nice of you to treat them, well above and beyond necessary.

You didn't mention the age of your students, that might have made a
difference.

Manners seem to be a dying art at times. Kids aren't born knowing how to say thank you or how to be polite in other ways. These are learned skills and should be the parents' responsibilty.

I guess if it was me, I would be disappointed too, but would take it as a reminder that we have become responsible for so many skills that should be taught in the children's homes.

Kids

get 3 choices for the school lunches here, so they aren't shy in stating their prefences.
The kid asking about seconds might just have been checking on the rules. The kid with the cookies is not to blame if his mom said to bring them home again. You are right, that is poor manners, but what can you say?

Is it that they don't care, or that they just don't know? Inapproprate behavior can be taken as a teaching opportunity. Can you help "civilize' these kids ?
