Well Stated

Ellyn,
I do agree that our country is going to end up crashing and burning all by itself. Scary to think about for sure.

I also agree that with each "expert" we're given to "help" us do our jobs "better" we are actually
just being pushed farther and farther down.

The way kids are raised today is just so appalling when you compare it to the way we were raised. We were active rather than lazy couch potatoes. We were punished for doing something wrong, not given a variety of choices. We had limits, not total freedom. There were standards from which to live by, rather than just being allowed to

do whatever we felt like with no consequences.

In being a teacher, I witness so much damage being done every single day to these kids without parents even realizing the damage they're causing.

Thirty years ago, the percentage of teachers who were blamed for everything was NOTHING compared to now. Since when did WE become the scapegoats?? Since when are WE responsible for EVERYTHING a kid does wrong? Since when is it NOT our job to encourage accountability and responsibility in our students?

The number one reason why kids are so darn FAT and IRRESPONSIBLE is due to POOR PARENTING. It's the PARENTS themselves who are lazy, irresponsible, judgmental and blaming, and incompetent. Kid driving you crazy? Don't spend time w/ him, just plop him in front of the TV, computer, or Play Station. Don't have time to cook? No problem --- that's what McDonald's, Taco Bell, and Pizza Hut are there for -- 5 nights a week. Daughter won't wear what you buy? Don't bother being the adult -- let her wear clothing suitable for a 25 year old. Kid won't do homework? That's ok -- the teacher gave too much anyways. Kid can't behave in school? Of course not -- the teacher is terrible and mean and unreasonable. I could go on and on, as I'm sure we all could.

It's not that often anymore that you meet parents who truly have earned the title of PARENT. Every year I have more than my share of ignorant and incompetent parents who have no right being parents.

I don't even know what this thread is about anymore ... was it fat kids?
