Poster looking for an answer ...

I think the thoughts posted here are helpful to a point but I think "Teacher2" was asking specifically did she handle the situation w/ this particular student appropriately. I haven't read anything here that addresses her
concern.

I think it was handled well ... not sure I would have used the word "cheating" given he's in 2nd grade, as that can be seen as harsh, and there was really no proof he DIDN'T do the reading, but I also think he gave himself away by imemdiately saying "I didn't read the books" so Teacher2 may have been perfectly justified in pointing out he hadn't "earned" a book. Calling the

parent was appropriate as well. But she seemed to repeat herself often too, emphasizing he didn't read them all in one night. It seems a little strange to me. I also think allowing him to choose a book this time was ok (it was an honest mistake in forgetting to have him go back and choose one).

But I'm not sure what I would do if this happened again.
