times tables
By teachfla

Clip to ScrapBook
I taught second last year, and we had to learn our 0-5 and 10s tables. This year I'm in third, and we started by reviewing last year's tables. It still took a week or so.

As far as learning the tables, we use our fingers
a lot, making up rhymes for the number patterns. This works well for 2, 3, 4, 5, and 10s facts. I use School House Rocks songs to help the kids learn the facts. The 3s song is especially good. I've taught them how to use arrays, how to use a multiplication table, and how to use flash cards for memorization (part of their homework is to practice the facts we've already learned for 5 minutes
a day.) I've also had them create number strips for each fact.

We just began learning our 6s today. By the time we get to the "toughies," we realize that we only have five or so facts to learn for each. I hope this was somewhat helpful. Good luck. They love multiplication!
