talking out
By L

Clip to ScrapBook
I too cannot stand it when the kids have to interject between each and every sentence on the spelling test and am glad Chicago teacher said it too so I know I'm not alone. We have 25 words in 5th grade!! I thought they should
know by now, but I have one in particular that simply has to comment on every single word, to the point where I've told him before each pre and post test that it's our goal for him to not call out between every single word. I try to say nicely that we do not want to hear his comments, thoughts, and experiences for each word. The giggles or groans that his comments elicit must add
at least 5 minutes to each spelling test and a lot of frustration on my end too. Similarly, there are 5 or 6 who no matter how many times I say it, use it in a sentence, and say it again, are still asking me consistently each week to repeat number this or number that. It's reached a point where I'm ready to just take their tests for calling out and refuse to repeat the words more than the 3 or 4 times. I'm sorry but in 5th grade you know the words, you know the routine and it's a listening test too. If you can't listen long enough to hear it one out of 4 times, then you should get it wrong.
