There may be a medical reason for this problem My middle child had a similar problem. After several (frustrating) discussions with pediatritions over the years. During January of this year he was eventually diagnosed with encropresis. (So he was unable to feel that he needed to pass a bowel movement). Successful corrective action was begun immediately.
