both sides of the fence

Clip to ScrapBook
I was a long time sub....now have part time position and sub afternoons. I understand a lot more now that I see it from both sides.

I try really hard to go out of my way to make subs at my school feel welcome. I appreciate
it when teachers take the time to say hi, how are you etc.

With my own subs I make sure they dont do my supervision (unless I am stuck), have decent plans, and I send an email or phone to say thank you.

The overall impression I get is that most teachers do care very much that you have a good day. These are the teachers I sub for. What is hard now to realize is that classroom teachers

are so busy it is really hard to even get to do more than hi.

I care who is in my classroom, I what to know my kids were up or down, etc.

What is harder? Believe it or not I think subbing is harder and to be honest I really cant stand it anymore and have gone internal at my school only. Yes, a gamble but I see it this way. I WONT sub next year now that I have had a taste of what I am really capable of.

Contract teaching is not easy but I have the peace of mind of knowing where I am going and what I need to do. Is there enough time? Nope, I work nights, weekends, and holidays. Do I love it? yes
