Reading journals
By I teach 4th grade, too

Clip to ScrapBook
I am just beginning to assess our letters. I've been modeling and discussing all of the things good letters need since the beginning of the school year. The students have used a rubric to assess their own letters before
they turn them in each week. Now, I will use the same rubric to actually give them a weekly grade. The items on the rubric are:

I have reread my letter to make sure it makes sense.
I have used correct spelling and capitalization.
I have answered all questions asked in the previous letter.
My letter has a date, an opening, and a closing.
I have included information regarding

my book. (I have a long list of weekly "choices" that the students can write about on the wall for them to refer to.)

Each item on my rubric is worth 5 points. Hope this is the type of info you were looking for! If you have further questions, please post again.
