Structured time vs non-structured time
By Kate

Clip to ScrapBook
Sounds like my classroom! I have 22 with no instructional assistant. The impulsive behaviors and bold/rude language is awful this year. My school psychologist recommend the Second Step program, a social skills program for preschool and kindergarten. Fortunately a school in our district had it and I borrowed it. Impulsive Pup and Slow-down Snail are great puppets for teaching self control skills.
I have to structure my day, every minute of it. Transitions are the worst and we started a marble jar (one marble for good behavior--whole group, everyone is accountable). After 10 marbles are earned they get a prize of their choice, usually extra recess on Fridays.
Be consistent, set limits, and reward positive behavior.
