11 years of doing newsletters! By PTO mom

I was the newsletter chairman for our school's PTO for 11 years! At first each teacher would submit info for the monthly newsletter. We progressed from hand written "hard copy" that I would type into the computer, to eventually| having teachers put their report directly onto discs that I would then download. We streamlined further by having only one teacher report for the entire grade level since they were usually doing about the same thing. The principal always had a letter to the parents, and the "specials" teachers (art, music & gym) provided me with information monthly. We would always include a calendar, | | usually on the front page; actually more like a list of important dates for the month's activities. We would also include small bits of artwork (line drawings) provided by a "featured" grade level to help break-up the monotony of all that type. This was all a number of years ago, before everyone had the internet and schools started doing their newsletters on-line or creating web sites. I am now a teacher (in another district) and here the school secretary puts together a one page newsletter each week with info on Market Day, important dates, family nights, etc., general school & district stuff. Each teacher, in turn, sends home their own weekly newsletter to parents that details what's happening in the classroom. Hope this helps!
