I have done this successfully with 3rd graders and they were fascinated. However, we did have one parent who was VERY opposed to this idea, so you may want to get parent permission. (this parent opposed many ideas). Also,we collected our own pellets. Some teachers order sterile ones from a science catalogue. We did find maggots in a few which was yucky, but scientific! I have since heard that they should be dried in a low oven prior to dissection which would eliminate that problem.
