field trips

Here's another suggestion, that I learned just recently (almost) the hard way.

I always offer for parents to come along, and they have the option of riding on the bus with us, or meeting us there. They usually end up
riding with us. A couple of weeks ago, we took a 40 mile trip to a university's planetarium. One of the parents opted to follow us in her own van rather than brave the bus ride. It was a good thing! We had a little girl (second grade) who had a sudden attack of diahhrea. We had to stop the bus, and let her get out to do her business in the bushes on the side of the road (yikes!)
There was nothing around as we were out on the open highway. Wellll.... she didnt quite make it and had an accident in her pants. Thank goodness the mom in the van was right behind us. She was able to run up the highway to Wal-Mart to buy her a new pair of pants. The other kids never really knew what happened except that she "got sick."

From now on I will be sure to have at least one of the parents drive behind us. In case of an emergency I want to be able to take care of it without having to bring all 65 kids along with me!
