Cabin Fever
By Kerry

Clip to ScrapBook
What you're experiencing is definitely normal. Not only was the week off kilter, but, Thanksgiving is next week, the week is going to be short, and the kids are probably very excited. In addition, kids go through this all
the time ... they're great for 3 weeks and then it's like they've had enough of you, school, each other, and just act wild ... they're kids. It's frustrating and annoying, but it's part of the territory as a teacher.

I definitely don't think having them put their heads down was a bad idea. It's all in the delivery though. I have done this sometimes, and what I tell them is, "I

see that we are having a hard time ____________________. We need a break. Please go to your desks and rest your heads for 5 minutes." There are always some kids who never break rules or act out, but, this is one of those times where majority rules. Later you can gently explain that to your kids, that at times, "majority rules" and affects the entire community.

It's only your 3rd year ... consider this another new learning experience from which to build on.
