Wow . . .you have had a lot of responses . . .

I want to share a few things . . .

First . I HAVE a son with ADHD . .he is on meds . .Thanks be to God . . .

True the Ritilin, wears off quickly, that is why it is
not used all that much any more . there are SO MANY OTHER MEDS that are better that the child takes ONCE A DAY and LAST ALL DAY!!! Concerta, and Stratera being two of them.
I have a child in MY class who is MORE ADHD than my own son . .hard to belive, but true . .when the parent and I sat down and had a heart to heart talk, and she saw and felt that I understood HER situation instead

of my complaining about MY situation (her son's behavior in my class) she agreed to seek help.

The concern about havin a child 'drugged' or being 'sleepy' is a fair concern, but again, an old one. That is the VERY reson I used to fight medicating my own kid. Once a parent gets in front of the RIGHT doc, and the kiddo is given the right meds, the universe re-alines and all is good in the world.

Be patient, the decision to medicate a child is a VERY difficult one . .there are a lot of 'mom' issues to over-come . .like, am I an inneffective mom? is this MY fault . . .once that is all addressed and the mom understands it is a MEDICAL condition, meds soon follow and Thanks be to God, thngs in your class WILL get better . .
