right level?
By Mary

Clip to ScrapBook
My feeling is that Incredible Journey is sort of young for a grade-level sixth grader. I probably wouldn't use it. If stories about animals are what you're after, how about something by Jack London for the high readers, Gary Paulson for the grade-level readers (Dogsong) and Shiloh for your low readers, or Because of Winn-Dixie. Winn-Dixie might be better, because a lot of kids have read Shiloh by sixth grade. I mean, Incredible Journey would probably fit in there, but it's an old book, and I don't think, as interesting. I'm fifty years old, and we did Incredible Journey when I was in elementary school. Much has been written more recently that really is much better.
