Conditioner By Sue

Hi! I have had headlice a few times now, not from the children I teach but from my own. We have now given away all of the insecticide and pesticide treatments and we use cheap hair conditioner. Conditioner stuns the lice| for about 20 minutes so you have a chance to comb as many of the suckers out as you can...and the eggs will slide out as well. Use a fine toothed comb and wipe the conditioner on a paper tissue. You will be able to see the lice. It isn't a one-off thing...you will need to do it over a few nights but it is extremely effective, cheap and relatively pain free. I also use it as a checking thing...if | | I think we have lice I put conditioner through our hair and look at what we find. We also recommend at our school that each family does it each Friday. There has been a lot of research on it here in Australia. They do recommend though that if you have a bad infestation that you may have to use a special treatment..especially if the hair is thick. I think the man who is responsible for the research here is called Rick Speare. Do a search on google. I know that the condition and comb method sounds too good to be true but it isn't! Now if we have nits we don't even worry about it...just get the conditioner out and off we go. At school we have Head Lice Awareness week and teach the kids how to check their heads, how to use conditioner, teach them about the life cycle and how lice spread and have colouring in competitions...really try to demistify it. Once the kids know that I have had it well they think it is pretty funny! Good luck...take the little suckers on with some conditioner!
