I used to hate them because it made me feel like I was working with mirrors. (I can't drive using mirrors.)

We got a new reading series that came with transparancies that you really need to use. So I had to get a projector and the PTA bought each class one. Anyway I really like it now and so do my first graders.

I let them write on it (like calling someone to the board to write.) There are usually some activities to read sentences with new vocabulary. Nothing creative... just sentences.I'll ask kids to come up and circle the words I say. They love using the different colored pens. If they read the sentence then they get to come up and find a special word. This works well with unmotivated readers since they love writing on the film.
