Food
By Sabrina

Clip to ScrapBook
In Texas we have a new law from the Dept. of Ag. that says we cannot use food for instruction or reward. We have 3 waiver days so we can have food during holiday parties.

It is really difficult. I agree that you shouldn't
use food as a reward all the time, but I don't think it hurts if it is not too frequent. Candy is also a whole lot cheeper than other rewards like pencils, pens, etc.

What I do now is have a ticket system. I give tickets (raffle tickets you buy on a roll) for kids being on task and winning games in the classroom. Then on Fridays we have ticket turn-in day. They can turn the tickets

in for items.

Most of the stuff was inexpensive or stuff parents donated.

I have bookmarks for 20 tickets, pencils for 40, pens for 55, drawing pass for 60, lose your shoes pass for 75, lunch with the teacher for 100, homework pass for 150, folders (that I bought on clearance) for 250 and books (ordered with bonus points) for 300.

My kids really like this system.
