spelling

Clip to ScrapBook
There are two things that I have tried that both worked very well when the problem was just that the students weren't studying at home. I give a practice test either on Wednesday or Thursday as part of our review (I let the
parents know when in my weekly newsletter). Some years I have let those who make 100 on the practice test skip the Friday test and play games or read while we take the test. This year I am having those who miss words write those they miss five times each for homework. Parent's who won't respond to bad grades sometimes will respond to extra homework or to a child who complains about not
getting to play.
Also, sometimes the reason a child has trouble spelling is because of his learning style. Things like air writing or standing to spell the word and jumping up on each vowel or singing the letters could make it easier for some learners to remember the words. Maybe some of the fun things would help your strugglers. Try doing something early in the week when you know that you will have time and see if it helps.
Good luck!
