Here's what I've learned By Kathy

over the years:*Send out a letter outlining the field trip, any costs involved, times, etc. well before the actual date. Make sure permission slips/money/driver's form are all taken care of the day before the field trip. | (That's a hassle you don't want to deal with the day of.) *Small groups is definitely the best way to tour the museum and if possible don't give yourself a group so you can roam around and help as needed. (or take a disruptive kid, if necessary) *Come up with some kind of assignment that will focus kids and let them know you consider this an important learning experience and not | | a goof-off time, but don't give anything so complicated that it takes away from the fun of the field trip. (A scavenger hunt might be fun for this age group!)*Make sure you leave early coming and going. *Make sure the kids know well in advance just what is happening on the field trip and what you're expectations are. (With some groups I actually have them sign contracts!) *Have fun!! You can't beat most field trips! That "being there" experience is just invaluable.
