Requests
By Morgan

Clip to ScrapBook
I've had many parents ask who I thought their child should be placed with the following year. My answer is always the same, "all of our 5th grade teachers are good, so it really shouldn't matter as long as __________ works
up to his/her potential"

My school accepts parental requests, in writing, but my principal requests that parents provide a valid reason why they are asking for a particular teacher. I have one parent this year, for example, that has requested a male teacher because her son doesn't have a father or other male figure in his life and she said she thinks having a male teacher would be

benefitial. I think that is a reason to grant their request.

On the other hand, I received a child in my class this year (with a very pushy mother who gets whatever she wants in my school or she complains to the superintendent)who requested me because the other teachers are "too mean" as she said. I could not believe that they would grant that request. The other teachers are wonderful by the way. Last year she had her son moved from one teachers room (who was the nicest woman you could imagine) because she said the teacher made her son nervous. I can't wait for this parent to be out of my hair.
