Me too
By Delia

Clip to ScrapBook
I used to think I was a champ at managing guided reading groups and listening to each one of them read softly (I call it whisper reading) but this year I felt like I was completely out of control with the management of the
groups. Kids who were testing out of running records on the same DRA levels still couldn't keep up with one another in reading groups ... when I switched them around, there would always be singletons.

I guess what you can do is this (it's what I do): on the first day that you're introducing a book, have the kids take a picture walk, make predictions, discuss observations, make connections,

etc. Then have each of them read to page ____ to themselves (whisper reading) so that when they finish at their own pace, they can move on to the response journal or activity you have prepared for them.

Does this make sense to you?
