Not a great idea

I look at this situation both as a teacher who has taught elementary and middle school and as a mom who has had 4 kids go through the middle school transition. Our school district has the policy that the 6th graders are in the same area as 7th and 8th but they have a different schedule and different actiivities. I wouldn't have put my kids in middle school for 6th grade if they were'nt protected in this way because I have worked with middle schoolers for years and there is a huge difference in their maturity level and what they will do for shock value. It is a bad idea - good for teachers - teaching middle school is lots of fun - bad for students - expecting them to encounter situations they are not ready to handle.
