Clip to ScrapBook
I work with several teachers who just show up. They don't know what they're teaching until one minute before they need to teach it, arrive last minute and are first out the door, teach with nothing but worksheets, neglect
obligations such as morning duty, put absolutely no creativity into cooperative planning, never want to try anything new or different, and I could go on. Because of years(10+) of teaching in various schools and grades with people like this I can definitely sympathize with Schwarzenegger's statement. I take my job seriously and still manage to have a life outside of school. Sometimes
I become extremely frustrated when the slackers seem to be the ones that always come out on top. I am definitely not offended or threatened by the statement. BUT I do agree with the poster who pointed out that parents need to hold some of the responsibility. It would be very hard to come up with a definition for "merit."
