positive

Clip to ScrapBook
I have always taught in Title One and found those kids (truthfully all kids) respond so much better to positive rather than negative. Not to say you shouldn't have negative consequences for "misbehavior", but a lot of what goes on in the class in "not proper behavior" rather than "misbehaving". A point system, tickets, classroom money etc. for good behavior worked a lot better for me. They will still act like they don't care that Jimmy got points and I didn't, but they do care. I saw a big turn around this year when I gave positive consequences for just about everything. (The other good thing is giving positive points to turn around minor behavior that you might not normally give neg. consequences for).
