respond because your job sounds almost exactly like my job. Usually we have around 120-125 students on our team. This year it was around 135. Every time I assign a parallel writing task I spiral into a depression - there| goes my life. The worst thing is, I know I should assign them more often, but it just is not physically possible to keep up with the grading along with all the smaller day-to-day things. I do not stay at school to grade them though. I record everything in my grade book and then enter them into the computer later - I can do it much more quickly that way and it has come in handy when | | the network is acting up or I have to speak to a parent with no computer nearby. I worked as an account clerk before becoming a teacher, so the number pad is my friend. P.S. - I haven't taken a summer off since I started teaching in 1996. I teach summer school to make ends meet. BUT, I'm hoping to take at least 1/2 the summer off next year. My daughter just got her certification for English, so I figure it's time to pass the torch and either live frugally or become a cashier for the summer and give my teacher nerves a break.
