non-caring student?

I can't help but feel bad that he's in 3rd grade and has been in SIX different schools. He's probably never had the opportunity to establish relationships with his teachers, so he puts up a non-caring attitude. I know of students who've been moved around so many times that eventually they give up and protect themselves from getting close to anyone. Maybe that's what he does.

I wouldn't doubt that he has low self-esteem and doesn't want to share what he does. He seems like a kid who's been moved around so much that he's never been able to develop any familiarity or security.

What is his mother like? Why has he been to so many schools? His mother/family is doing such a disservice to him by constantly moving around.
