That sort of action may be labeled "entrapment" and may reflect against you, even if you are trying to use the acquired information from the tape to defend yourself. It might be more| assertive (and legal) to keep a standard-sized tape recorder on your desk top "ready-to-go" and when the principal comes into your room to make his threats, you just stop the conversation, look him in the eye and say "Do you mind if I tape this conversation?" If he says yes, you're on - start taping. If he says no, document that you tried. Then start climbing your chain of command. By the | | way, would you consider making an appointment with the personel director at your district office for a private discussion concerning that evaluation? Sometimes, a person needs friends in higher places.
