So you are going to have three groups of 25-30 students every 90 minutes? That will be a lot of kids.

I teach two groups of kids for reading/la for 90 minutes. I also have history for a content area with both groups.

90
minutes does not seem to be enough time for reading and language arts, but you have to make due with what you have. I have found that it is easy to work with grade level students whole group. I still pull students into small groups, but not set reading groups. I mix them up all the time.

If they are below grade level or not reading fluently, it will be necessary to have small

reading groups based on reading levels.

Literature circles are a great tool for teaching students how to have conversations about books, it will also provide you time to work with a group while the others are meeing with their group.

I never felt like I had enough time for writing and spelling. Spelling and word knowledge is important, but writing needs to be modeled for the students and practiced everyday in sixth grade. It is the only way students progress.
