Active Learning
By Sarah

Clip to ScrapBook
My principal likes to see kids actively learning. Tthis means not a lot of lecturing, but a lot of discussion, cooperative learning, concept and problem based learning. (These are all models of teaching that you can look
up online). Make learning personal to the studrnts. Ask for their thoughts and responses to lessons, as well as their stories. This keeps students engaged.

The cons with using different instructional models is that you have to train the kids and prep them for each one. There is always a part of the lesson where you, as the teacher, must spend time explaining how the lesson is going

to work, and so on. It takes more lesson preparation on your part, but using various instrutcional strategies is not only research based, but makes teaching more fun as you can more fully see the learning take place. There are lots of "torpedo fish" as Socrates would put it.
