Tennure should be kept but so should better evaluations. A principal alone should not have the authority to hire/ fire a teacher. Other qualified individuals should and must be involved. Tennure can help students if the right evaluations are in place. Now adays teachers are expected to be secritaries and social workers as well as instruct the children. I cannot sit down with a family and fill out papers then fully instruct students and help them with their family problems. Now we must deal with discipline issues that are really family issues. A curriculum and hourly amounts of time should show what | | we teach. For example if 20 hours a week need to be math time then lessons should reflect that. Telling me what to teach should come only from the school district. Parents who tell me their child is doing XY and Z at home has nothing to do with what they do for me at school. Parents should be able to sue teachers/ districts only if we may sue back. The lack of help or time put into a child's education should be neglect. If we too can sue for damages done to our materials or personal well being then it should be recprocal. When I get compensated for doing the research and meetings I must attend as well as the time over and above that I put into my room and lessons are amply compensated for then the parents have the right to sue me for not teaching their child. I am a good teacher who is persuing higher learning and participates in parent teacher endevors. If a parent does not think I am giving his/her child what they need to succeed then they must let me know what they expect of me.
