grading

Clip to ScrapBook
With my system, grades for reading and math are equally weighted. One-third of the grade comes from homework (was it completed, not necessarily correct), one thrid from a test-grade average, and the other from classwork-grade average (mostly how I feel the child is performing, but sometimes I grade classwork too.)

For spelling, I equally weigh the homework-grade average and spelling-test average. For science and social studies, I average test or project grades and classwork (participation) grades. For writing, I average the prompt scores, completed journal entries, and classroom participation.

However, I also send weekly progress reports home so parents can not only see letter grades, but how their child is doing in classroom focus and responsibility.
