You are working with the public, and there are weird people out there. People who would accuse a good intentioned teacher so they could sue the school district. Just the other day I heard a woman on talk radio claim that parents should be suspicious of a teacher who wants to spend time outside of school with their children. There have been a couple of teachers at my school accused (one male and one female) and they were kindergarten and first grade teachers. The charges were proved unfounded, but they will forever live with that. Once you are accussed of something like that, you are forever marked as a suspicious person. Trust me- it is smart to take every precaution.
