In my district...
By Heather

Clip to ScrapBook
We only teach reading for the primary grades in summer school. The curriculum is very structured for the time we have them - four hours a day for 20 days.
I would make sure to include a shared reading or read aloud time every day as well as sufficient time to get to all the students in guided reading each day. During your reading time, kids should be spending most of their time actually reading, not doing busy work that takes time away from their reading. We can't expect them to improve their reading without actually reading!
