Don't feel so bad.
By Carla

Clip to ScrapBook
I was really nervous on my first interview, and the principal asked me what professional goals I had. Because I wasn't thinking and because I wanted to sound ambitious, I told her that after some five years in the classroom,
I'd like to go into adult education or something like that at some career center I'd just visited on a website that morning. So, it looked like I just wanted this job as a short stepping stone into another one in the district.

As it was coming out of my mouth, I felt myself thinking, why the heck am I saying this nonsense? It wasn't even true- I was just nervous and felt like I

needed to say SOMETHING.

The new technique I've learned is (when appropriate) to repeat the question back to the person who asks to make sure you understand what they are asking. This will also give you a little time to think about it.

I also answer some questions by giving specific examples of things I've done in the past. This way, I'm sure to be clear and know what I'm talking about.

Of course, I've had three interviews and no job, so maybe I'm not the best one to give advice.
