First off, if you can student
Next, I know that Baytown's GCISD and LaPorte's district (don't remember what it is called) are both usually hiring. It would help to network. They are lower income districts, but easy drives to Clear Lake whereas Klein will put you almost an hour away. I think Friendswood and Clear Lake are pretty competitive- if you are student teaching in HISD, it may be harder to get into the "nicer" districts like those and Klein. I've heard it is easier to get a job in HISD itself, so if you get desperate, you ought to decide if you can handle it. If you speak Spanish well enough to be certified bilingual, you'll get a job in any of these areas. Remeber that there are three major universities in Houston alone, and that there are even more in the surrounding areas. So you might want to reevaluate passing up HISD if you want to live in that area. Good luck!
