What about something to do wtih the Magic Schoolbus? I know that there is a book The Magic Schoolbus Visits the Ocean Floor. I'm not sure about the desert, but you probably could incorportate the desert theme into a Magic Schoolbus adventure as well. The kids could even write their own stories. For the ocean, you could also have the kids design an imaginary aquarium, and have them research, design and create "exhibits" about the parts of the ocean life you want to focus on.
