Interview
By NJ Teacher

Clip to ScrapBook
After sharing that you feel you are ready for new challenges and changes, I would connect with the fact that you feel you would be a strong candidate because your years in the lower grades gave you a strong sense of the basic
reading and math skills that your children will be expected to have in the upper grades. I'm not sure if you will be departmentalized or self-contained, but I would mention your strengths as a teacher both with the content you will be teaching and your time management/organizational skills.Willingness to learn/use technology is a biggie in our district, especially with the older children.
If you did any student teaching with older children, I would bring that in there so they know you have had experiences at that level.I would also research the building/district and point out some things you would especially look forward to. For instance, if you would like to be departmentalized and the school is, or if they offer special activities and opportunities such as advanced technology you could incorporate into your lessons, I would let that enthusiasm come through. Good luck to you! Let us know how it turns out.
