My reply to 6th vs. 8th
By Sherry

Clip to ScrapBook
Sorry Chris, but the moment I hit the POST button, I realized I had answered your question the opposite of its meaning...duh! Sorry...8th grade is equally awesome...they are capable of great thoughts and imaginative problem
solving. They write with tremendous depth and are usually eager to become better at these skills. Many 8th graders develop BIG attitude near Thanksgiving and hold on to it until late spring when the reality of high school looms to the forefront. I hear back from them that the best thing I did for them was to make them independent from me(the teacher)and make them responsible for their
own learning. I try to work more as a facilitator - this seems to make them take ownership of their education. I encourage them to be greedy with their education and get all they can.
Even with all the social drama and angst and 'tude of the 8th grade, I still love teaching them...enjoy them, but be careful...there are some flirty girls out there!
P.S. - they will blame you for everything, so just get used to it.
