Do you have any cubes or building type blocks? Assign a "science" experiment...ask him to please design something with the blocks. However, he must write a descriptive paragraph: giving it a name and telling you what it will be used for. Do not set parameters in the writing...let him determine these for himself.Want to encourage.... I used our math cubes (base 10) and gave each student a set of 100...they answered six questions, drew a picture, presented it orally, and wrote one paragraph on their invention. The class did not complain about writing and did not want to STOP the project. I have 4th graders....
