The above poster, Jess, made some very good points in her post. I'm not blaming you, but maybe you should've left your walkie talkie with her despite the fact that she didn't and was supposed to have hers. At my school only one person is required to have a walkie-talkie outside.

You shouldn't have to pick up the slack of an inreliable coworker, but would it have been possible for the nurse or another staff member meet you at the door or come outside and get your student with Downs?

Ultimately she is responsible for the student running off and she should've acted differently.

The reason for walkie talkies is to call into the office and ask for extra help in any given situation.
