my POV
By first grade teacher

Clip to ScrapBook
Maybe I misunderstood, but I took the OP's comment to mean that she herself had watched the kids alone many times with no problems, not the other teacher in question.

I agree there may have been bad choices on both sides.
Yes, another child could have gone with the one who wet her pants, but that would have been exposing her to possible humiliation, more than she probably felt. I know my first graders shudder away from classmates when they have an accident, imagine a fourth grader. I'd probably want to go with the child too, to guard against hurt feelings and such.

The other teacher probably just

did the first thing that popped into her mind. Get the other kid back. Yes, she could have sent someone in to get adult help, but obviously she chose not to. We don't know what she was thinking. It shouldn't really be about 'my' students and 'your' students. They are all students in the school and the safety of all matters whether they are in your class or not. I certainly wouldn't let another child get hurt simply because they are in the class of a teacher I don't particularly care for.

As for the OP, I'd have been mad too, even if it wasn't a cut and dry of who's 'fault' it was. Maybe the anger is just a way for you to deal with it. Nothing wrong with that. There are teachers at my school who always seem to do the bare minimum at all things, and it makes me mad anytime I have to share any kind of duty with them because it makes it twice as hard on me trying to cover for their inadequacies. I can definitely sympathize with you. Hopefully with the weekend here now, you feel a little better.
