I don't think it was wise to leave your partner with 49 children, even for 10 minutes. That is a lot of children for only one adult to watch, and although you may have been able to leave this group with her on occasion in
the past without consequence does not mean that things would always go smoothly. I think that in light of the fact that this was not an emergency situation, you could have sent another child with the child who wet her pants and have avoided further problems by staying with the group. I only would have left the children unattended in an emergency situation, especially with the types of

children you describe. If your principal was mad, perhaps he was mad that you left the playground, and I'm sure he was also mad about having to go and fetch the children. As an administrator, I'd have a hard time being mad at a teacher who has been left alone with 49 kids.
